Road of Death

Program
Day 1. Arrival in Yakutsk, transfer to the hotel. Welcome-dinner at a restaurant.
Day 2. Transfer by 4WD minibus to Tomtor1. Overnight stope in Khandyga, lunch
at a roadside cafe. The first part of the car route runs across the frozen Lena
River, the Aldan (time en route 8-10 hrs). Hotel double rooms accommodation
in Khandyga. Dinner at a cafe.
Day 3.
Breakfast at a cafe, transfer from Khandyga to Tomtor (500 km distance), the route
goes over the Verkhoyansk mountain range, across Kolyma high road - 'the
road built on bones'. Stop for lunch near Vostoch-naya meteorological station.
Arrival in Tomtor in the evening, Accommodations and dinner at a private apartment
hotel in Tomtor outskirt, in Kuidusun area.
Day 4. Breakfast, tour of Tomtor. Visit to the ice sculptures museum, winter
palace of Chyskhan2, visit to the GULAG-museum. In the evening - introduction
to culture and customs of northern peoples, tradition dances of the indigenous
peoples of Oymyakon-area perfomed by children's dance group 'Eym'3. All the
meals at the hotel.
Day 5. Breakfast, tour of the meteorological station in Tomtor. Climbing Ebe
Chaia mountain. Lunch.
Ice-fishing nearTomtor, perhaps in the Kuidusun river near the hotel or the
Indigir-ka river (15-20 km distance). Possible taking part in and learning the
ice-dressing techniques, taste 'strogani-na' - instantly frozen fish cut in
chips.
Day 6. Transfer to Oymyakon. Visit to the Oimyakon mayor, receiving certificates
of visiting the Pole of Cold. Horse riding is arranged on a request.
Day 7. Transfer to Khandyga. Visit to the Yuchyugey-village —Evenk
reindeer breeders' settlement. Introduction with their life, culture and traditions,
reindeer riding. Traditional cuisine lunch. Transfer to Khandyga. Dinner. Overnight
accomodation in Khandyga.
Day 8.
Transfer to Yakutsk. Lunch at a roadside cafe. Arrival at Yakutsk
by the evening.
Day 9. Departure from Yakutsk.
